the trapped Chilean miners have been in the news, and this old ('88, i think) Cowboy Junkies piece came to mind.

a very short, sweet, acapella from Margo TImmins:

    percussion is good *nod*

Gary Barlow and Robbie WIlliams co-wrote and co-produced this song for WIlliams' new album.

do not leap to conclusions. they didn't. ;)

i don't think so, jamm. i do like the song; it's infectiously cheerful in spite of the "message".

did you happen to hear the one, where 50cent inserted a few bars of free-style comment at the start of the tune? it's ripe for all kinds of foolery, i think. :)

    *like* Cee-lo's voice *donotlike* 50pence's

'Catchiest song of the Day'award goes to Cee-Lo! Good Stuff!

the Irish sure can do rockabilly, and there is certainly a good argument to be made for vinyl nurse uniforms.

i really enjoyed her work with Jeff Beck. that tune ^ is a total hoot. :)

i've been telling everyone to listen to Rachael Dease's singing.

she is totally badass, and Schvendes (AUS) have moved past their early mostly goth-y focus but have retained a hint of menace. :)

    damn, i do enjoy good hand-dancing. :)

    i like illusions!

this fascinates me. ;) Die Antwoord fascinate me, a bit, too.

I'll mention that this is not a homophobic performance. Rather, Wanga is singing about not wanting to go into the bush with the old men who will circumcise him. If he is not circ'd, he'll be called an evil boy, considered homosexual, and no woman will have him. Ninja and Yo-Landi are over the top.... again.

These people are fearless performance artists, and made a killer vid. :D

since it's explicit, you may have to sign into YouTube. Might not, though. it wouldn't embed for me.

This isn't Daybroke's best tune ever (though it's just fine), BUT .... it's an amazing, fantastic vid.

yes, some of the CGI is a little "cheesy", but think what they could have done with just a little bit of money? :D

just know this: there are explosions. lots of explosions.

    ....speaking of hoops...

pure joy and damn foolishness. ;) i approve.

I've been a fan of Mew since '95 I think they do some awesome stuff. This is one of their newest videos - the song (Beach) is really great and I really like the mood in the video, although I don't have a clue what it's all about

    Please enjoy!

    Best

    Alci! Welcome back!

    thx :)

hey, alcindor. :) "not around much"... yes. shame on you! :p

eh, good that you did; i wish you would come around more.

the vid... it seems like it was fun to make. :) maybe that's all the meaning needed, eh? might be all centered around the line "We were not allowed outside, and no one could tell us why"

    ......

this is just plain exuberant foolishness.

    my money's on Professor Elemental.

    yes. yes you do. *nod*

    OOooff!

this is so strong and dark. visually compelling and wonderful.

Hey! Let's get this going :) I love discovering new things!

Kirsten & Marie is a Danish singer/songwriter duo (twins actually). The song is called My Dear and have a very nice vibe :)

die antwoord vid that mick couldn't embed earlier (she's such a n00b, pfft...)
  • edited December 2010
alci... those twins are just as cute as can be. :) i love hearing sibs sing together. the similar voices make it sound like harmony even if they're both singing the melody. their vid looks like it was very fun to make.

chris... boogiebaybeee!! i thought it was Prince until i saw the long legs.... and heard him sing. *chair dancing*

and... :p there was no U2B vid; i swear it! hehe

are not Die Antwoord the cat's pajamas, though? i <3 all of them (singly, please). i'll settle for watching anything they do.

    .......

this is so freakin' strange, but i have watched and listened 3 times now; that means i must like it. NSW

  • edited 8:38AM
whoa mick... that is seriously strange... Made me think of the movie "The Human Centipede"... :D
  • edited 8:38AM
    it did?

hmmm i thought it was a really thoughtful (if provoking) take on the lyrics and energy of the song. and yes :D strange.

    eg:

    (excerpted)

Into the cycle of the here and now
We take our fears and disappear somehow
    As we ascend
    Beginnings never end

    Twin flames in our hearts
As we turn towards our very start
    Twin flames in our minds
    When we move emotions multiply

that's what makes it a "music vid i like". ;) the film wouldn't stand on its own, and the song wouldn't interest me without the vid. together, they create something new (for me, at any rate).

    ................

    this is another:

the song's cute but banal, the vid concept sells the whole thing. without the song, the vid would just be funny puppet hands.

    together, i love it.

  • edited December 2010
mick... I really liked that previous vid :)

This next one might be a little cheap but it almost makes me cry when I see it especially when listening to the words. It's really sad - but with a happy end!

(Again a danish band - Kashmir)

  • edited 8:38AM
:) cheap isn't bad. cheap can be awesome.

that is a very odd little vid. i cringed when he stole the hearts from the mummy and the baby robots!

and .. bittersweet love songs FTW (in my case).

    ..........

this might be a fave for 2010. who wouldn't want to see more of Nick Cave painted blue? *sigh* his ass is still flat, though.

A video my bro just finished recently... Shot around london late at night.

  • edited 8:38AM
some interesting vocal work, there, Jamm. curious.. and wishing to foster discussion: what is it you like about the video (other than your brother filmed it)?

    ..........

this video made me really happy. the overall sweetness and sense of continuity in a love of music ,,,, AND the great badass kids. :D

combining Ghanaian cultural sensibilities and modern music seems right and natural when done by the magnificent Obour.

    a visual and aural feast.

  • edited 8:38AM
Shad barely appears in the video. the women totally own the lyrics. for me, it's as if Shad is saying "take it, own it, your voice belongs to you."

    positive music

  • edited 8:38AM
after a very weird band practice last night, i know exactly how they feel. ;)

  • edited 8:38AM
this is one of the better fight scenes caught on video, by gosh! great stuff :)

i'm also totally digging that nephicide video, awesomes!
  • edited 8:38AM
this is worth the time it takes you to sign into YouTube. NSW (but tasteful... really.)

    fantastic R&B, gorgeous people

and between the sound and the visual and the lyrics, i swear my ovaries leaped so high they found there way out my ears and went into seek mode.

    click and sign in.

it's Vevo, but people i showed this to in the UK and N Europe were able to see it.

    that's a start.... eep!

i'd like a little more warning before i click on explicit porn. especially mediocre joyless porn. NSW warning was good; i'd have liked to know something more about what i was about to see. i stopped watching, but the music didn't hold my interest either.

heh... so.. again, jamm... what was it about that music vid that you liked? (this is a disingenuous question.)

    ........

i don't want to end up in a nudie rut, but .....

if you like music vids with a beautiful women making love to a hot guitar (and who doesn't??), then you might enjoy this.

nsw... some nudity... nothing too crude.

    2 observations:

    good taste in guitars

    i appreciate the ending.

    :)

Not safe for children, the easily offended, strictly for the dark hearted.

    Serious business.

    oh ... that's hard. wow.

uncompromising. also, the best handling of actual filmed emesis i've seen; the cinnamon (sin-o-man?) harshed him sick.

and in the end.. his conscience commits suicide?

Tyler's strong; i hope he stays true to his heart.

this one.... it's all about the amazing sharp slomo (those feathers!) .

;) the smoky voice work does no harm, either.

i'd like to point out that the credits run nearly as long as the song.

post-punk rockers Social Distortion have stayed relevant; they've kept getting stronger and rocking hard.

not only do i like almost everything on their new album Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, i even like this vid (in spite of the violence).
