choose a car for me to buy

edited July 2009 in advice
long story short, got rid of the car that i was using as a general runaround earlier today. i wont be doing high miles in it, it need not be big, mainly for commuting. we have a family car which carries kids / wife / shopping etc. (and that may get swapped in the not too distant future, but let's not worry about that right now).

i was kinda looking at the fiat panda 100hp...

anyway, any suggestions?

I have a fiat 500 as a runaround and cant recommend it enough, its awesome and looks fab :) . Very nippy and does 45mpg easily

What about a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

you'd be really happy with a pickup. :D

i would love a pickup, to be fair :)

shock - the fiat 500 is ok, but a bit more money than i'd want to spend, i think.

    nicko - NICE TRY!

dont get anything by chrysler especially not their small runabout

fiat 500 is fine enough but price per measure is pricey liek the mini and the käfer.

    the Y is ok

i'd go larger and get something in punto class tbh - there will always be a time when that extra boot space will come in handy

just got rid of a punto on a 56 plate this morning.

hehe yeah, i'd seen that. ferrari is ok, but i bet the mpg is a little lower than the panda's.
  • edited 9:58AM
Ferrari owners, much like Chuck Norris have little need for MPG figures .... ever.
  • edited 9:58AM
it's not about a need. there are very many frugal millionaires around ;)

    get a moped + sidecar(s)
  • edited 9:58AM
commute takes in about 5 miles of national speed limit a-road - moped qouldn't cut it.

to be honest, i'm looking for something with a roof, already have a bike ;)

performance moped, you can hit 60mph for under $1,000,

    insight or civic?
  • edited 9:58AM
Civic. Depending on how you drive it, it gets about 35-43 miles per gallon.

I'm pretty sure they just phased out the Civic hybrid in favor of the Insight.

that panda 100hp gets a little over 43mpg, apparently.

the punto that went on tuesday got 45.4mpg over the last 2000miles i had driven it.

our other car is currently showing 50.8mpg, though that's with cath driving it. it should get high 50's, possibly low 60's.

the good thing about those hybrids is that they run on that free electricity that doesn't add to climate change, hehe.

Yeah, the Civic hybrid is supposed to get 50 mpg, but I guess I drive too fast. :D
