Can you send me the link again about upgrading my old girl from quadcore to 8 core? I have done some things with it..And at this point..It's at the point to upgrade the CPU and the RAM?
RAM is fine. El Cap does very well with RAM compression. If you don't have a SSD, even a small one, get one.
Doing a series on this at work this summer. Using a 4,1 but much of what will be written will apply to your 1,1.
I'll trade my 1,1 for your 4,1.
Thanks for the OH SO GENEROUS offer, but no.
Aaaand here we go!
"and El Capitan on both -- a simple exercise on the new machine, but significant hoops to hurdle through for the 1,1."
Err yes and no.. If you follow this..
it's a huge pain in the ass. If you are lazy like me.. then this..
At the moment I've spent about $130 on the 1,1. Added an Nvidia GT620 2 gig ($35 on Craigslist) It's running 2 HD's 1 for El Cap 10.11.5 and the original HD running 10.7.5 and Win7 32 bit on bootcamp. My next step is to buy a 3'rd HD and install Windows 7 64 bit as per this thread..
I've already got the ISO made.. After I spend $50 for the HD for Windows.. I'll take your advice and do the 2 quad core CPU and an SSD. And it looks like I'll end up between $300-$400 total..
I've got a secret... I've already done everything. Now I just stretch out the writing for five weeks.
You'll note what my price target was for the 1,1
Heh.. And I'll finish between $300-$400. Good call..
Ok..I'm looking at this for the CPU upgrade because they also include 16 gigs of ram..
Good price. 4x4 on the RAM, so you can keep most of what you have.
