Want some privacy from Google?

Follow the steps below:
1. Go to the google homepage and sign into your account.
2. Click the dropdown menu next to your name in the upper-right hand corner of your screen.
3. Click accounts settings
4. Find the "Services section"
5. Under "Services" there is a sub-section that reads "View, enable, disable web history." Click the link next to it that reads: "Go to Web History."
6. Click on "Remove all Web History"

When you click on "Remove all Web History," a message appears that says " Web History is Paused." What this means is that while Google will continue gathering and storing information about your web history it will make all data anonymous, that is, Google will not associate your Web History information with your online accounts and will therefore be unable to send you customized search results.

“Your search history is currently empty.”
  • Never had it turned on. Thankfully. I would have a very odd trail of work related searches for genital warts and colon cancer mixed with lego models motorcycle gear.
  • This feature could actually be useful, and it's not anything Google doesn't know already. I'm having trouble seeing the risk here. I'm leaving it intact.

it's the stuff like this that bugs me. i keep getting amazon emails about women's shoes and children's books because cath is on the home machine browsing for stuff... :D

There's a good and a bad about it... some recent coverage done by, I can't remember who, showed that because of some of the stuff Google is doing, two people searching for the same thing will often get different results based on their previous search/browsing history. I don't loose too much sleep over this but shouldn't the search process be 'democratic'/neutral?
  • I hate what happens if you ever actually buy anything online... you get plagued with ads from the place you just bought from following you around... "hey, wanna buy some more pearls? Contact lenses?" Makes me regret everything instantly.

Plus, it makes it really hard to disguise those... uh... contact lenses I bought as a last-minute gift...

It's just as irritating for her, she was telling me about all the gimp suit and vaseline emails she's been getting...
