Downmixing 5.1 to stereo
My xbox wont play mp4s with 5.1 so i have to downmix to stereo. Anyone got any thoughts?
I don't really want to do re-encodes. I'd love to just passthrough the video, but i can't find anything that will do it.
FFmpegX aborts (could be me not doing it right) and handbrake wont passthrough the video.
I can do it in quicktime pro but it flattens it in a really weird way, the music is fine but the speech is all in the right channel. This is actually specific to one file I have.
I'd just like a little more control and comfort that i'm not losing anything.

This is supposed to stream audio and video to an xbox. It downconverts 5.1
Twonky Media Server
As far as I understand it, it's a limitation of the xBox or mp4 or both.
I beg to differ.

jesse- it's a limitation of the xbox 360 h.264 codec.
I use the app to downmix my MKVs from DTS 5.1 to AC3 5.1 for my WD TV. You can downmix audio and do video passthru etc.

Apparently though only AC3 audio streams can be resampled, this file would appear to not be that. Listening to it in VLC all the speech does appear to be in the right channel even in 5.1. Weird.
I like Twonky as a server but it doesn't really fix or have anything to do with the problem I asked about initially.
Did you choose the proper output audio to stereo?
Anyway, thanks for the help.
Just for the record.
