yeah, i was going to say that formac thing too, but i understand you've already seen that. (not that i know of anyone that has experience of it).

i guess, depending on the number of tapes and amount of times you are likely to want to do this, you may be better off taking the tapes to some company to get them done for you?

I use one of these at work to digitize stuff that comes in on tape.

    Canopus ADVC300

This will take anything that can output through RCA or S-Video then bring it in through FCP or FCE. I think iMovie too, but I've never used it at work.

    thanks websnap.

that too is a bit over my budget.

I think i'll simply by new camera, or "like new" at the least.

i think i'll put together a wish list for my community site (MyBurg) as well. ;)

    thanks for everyone's help.

If it's only a couple of tapes you might be able to get a cheap price from a store.

    good luck.

this is true jazz, but perhaps the 'content' of those tapes is something best left private?

    :)

seriously, i've been meaning to get a digital vCam for a while. i'll just start putting some additional pennies away, as well as keep an eye out on my wish list. ;)

    thanks!
