  • edited 11:50AM
    .....speaking of expensive.... ;)

this is best watched in HiDef

technically, it's a promo for a fashion line. essentially, it's a music video. (with an emphasis on clothes.) starring ernest hemingway’s great grand-daughter, Dree.

speaking of Wonderbra™ (another thread)..... it took me a moment to "get it", but then i got a grin.

  • edited 11:50AM
I didn't get it till I saw the "swimwear" part.
  • edited February 2009
you know... i think that my initial "don't get it", and then yours means that they are crappy ads. funny pics, yes; good advertising.. not so much.

    :)
  • edited February 2009
    +1

    I didnt get it either

The only explanation I can think of is if they are deliberately trying for people not to get it in order for them to look harder into the ad trying to understand it and therefore increasing the brand exposure... a bit like the cadbury's ones at the beginning that I kept watching it trying to figure it out, or find a connection to the chocolate

Maybe I'm just trying too hard

    Back to my photonic graphs...
  • edited 11:50AM
of course you don't get it until you see the swimwear part. it's only then that the two elements come together to make it funny, duh ;)
  • edited 11:50AM
rbernato thought the same on page 6, btw :p
  • edited 11:50AM
he thought it was a crap ad too? (blush) :D

i will again apologize for not getting it. ;) maybe i should wear a sign on my forehead: AdBlocked
  • edited 11:50AM
but you did get it, you said yourself. i'm not sure i understand your concern.
  • edited 11:50AM
i judged the ad as bad without seeing the whole thing.

the moment it took for me to "get it" means.. to me... in an advertising context, that it's a crap ad. i don't take much more than that single moment to attend to any ad. if it doesn't make sense immediately, it gets ignored.
  • edited 11:50AM
"it took me a moment to "get it", but then i got a grin."

this was the whole point of the advert.

if they wanted you to get it straight away, and not grin, it may have just said... "Wonderbra now does swimwear." in big black letters. that sounds a bit boring, and you probably wouldn't really remember it.
  • edited 11:50AM
so, in an advertising context, it's far from crap, innit.
  • edited 11:50AM
    fair point.

i am being VERY cooperative, did you notice?

....laying in wait.. biding my time... plotting... scheming

and.... :) as usual, a vewy nice gull.
  • edited 11:50AM
i think that advertising is (often) very clever. i'd like to think that i still have free will, as to what i buy. but they are definitely good at placing their products well in the marketplace.

when you get it, it makes you feel good. like you are 'in on the joke'. clever. it reassures you. this is a proven way of 'aligning' their products with a certain demographic.

so, how many wonderbra bikinis would you like to order now?
  • edited 11:50AM
i still am getting good use from my current bikinis, and don't feel the need for any of wonderbra's "lift and separate". :D

    .......

this ad for Coinstar.. from those PES people is a lot of fun. i spent some time speculating about how long it took them to do it.

  • edited 11:50AM
    also.... chekkit.

PES made the best damn "human skateboard" vid i've ever seen. (not an ad... so it goes)
